EASTAMPTON >> Pet lovers and some of their furry friends will be on the run on Sept. 28 - and all for a good cause.
Men, women and children will take to Smithville Park in Eastampton Township on that day for the Paw Prints 5K to Help Animals in Need. Proceeds from the event, sponsored by the Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter, will be used to raise awareness and help fund the needs of homeless animals in the community.
The race, which begins at 8 a.m., will feature an off-road course through the historic park. Those preferring a shorter distance can compete in a 1-mile trail walk. Participants are invited to walk or run with their leashed dogs. Cat lovers can take part with their pets secured in jogging strollers or carry photos of their favorite felines.
Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female runners overall, the top male and female accompanied by a dog, the top male and female with a cat, and the top male and female in each age group – 17 and younger, 18 to 29, 30 to 49 and 50 and older.
As the Friends' largest fundraiser of the year, the run helps to support advanced medical care and spay/neuter assistance as well as the group's trap-neuter-return and foster programs.
Registration for the 5K is $30, the 1-miler, $20. Those who cannot attend can sign up to be virtual runners for $10.
