MEDFORD >> On May 17 at 11:43 a.m., Medford Township Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the area of Tuckerton Road East of Maine Trail for a report of a motor vehicle accident.
Arriving units located three vehicles involved in the crash. The preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle travelling east on Tuckerton Road, near the bend crossed over into the oncoming lane clipping one vehicle and striking a second vehicle.
Carol Bailey, 68, of Medford, a rear-seat passenger of the second vehicle sustained serious injuries to her head, chest and extremities as a result of the crash. Bailey was immediately evaluated by first responders and subsequently transported by air medi-vac to Cooper Trauma Center for treatment of those injuries. All other involved parties refused medical treatment at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle which crossed into the oncoming lane was identified as Luis A. Flores Ventrua, 28, of Somerdale.
Ventrua was arrested for being suspected of operating a motor vehicle under the influence. He was arrested on scene, issued several motor vehicle tickets and later released pending a future court hearing.
The roadway remained closed for approximately four hours while investigators processed the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Medford Township Police Traffic Unit and Criminal Investigative Unit.
