BLACKWOOD >> Shawnee High School freshman Jack Ross won an individual title at the annual Carl Arena/Al Rifkin Memorial Tournament May 4 at the par-72 Valleybrook Country Club here.

Ross shot a two-under par 70 to lead the Renegades to a ninth-place finish (with Rancocas Valley) in the field of 55 teams.

Other Shawnee scorers were Reece Raley (86), Patrick Frake (90) and Scott Minshall (93).

“I was very impressed the way our team performed at the Carl Arena tournament,” said Shawnee coach Joe Kessler. “We took ninth out of 55 teams and Jack Ross was incredible winning the tournament over 225 players. It was a great day for Jack and the Renegades.”

Seneca placed tied for 15th place with Cherry Hill East and Hammonton at 350.

Senior Scott Warner carded a 79 to lead the Golden Eagles, followed by Jake Meyer (86), Sean Casey (90) and Cian Doyle (95).

Lenape was 16th with a 355 team score.

Matt Thomas led the way with a 78, followed by teammates Sam Mohnacs (84), Zach Rush (93) and James Pai (100).

“It was a productive day for both Matt and Sam,” said Lenape coach Chris Foley. “Their front 9 scores of 38 and 39, respectively, allowed them to qualify for the South/Central Jersey Group 4 Sectional tournament as individuals on May 13.”

Cherokee placed 23rd overall at 369 with rounds from Brendan Biddle (82), Max Rubin (86), Lee Gerber (98) and Zane Klinshaw (103).
