GLASSBORO >> The Rowan University field hockey team has released its 2019 schedule.
The Profs have 17 games, eight at home and nine on the road. Last year, Rowan finished with a 22-1 record and broke the school mark for wins in a season. The field hockey team won the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
“I like the way our 2019 schedule is built,” stated head coach Michelle Andre. “We play a top out of conference schedule that will help put us in a good position in our region. Once again, the NJAC will be a top conference in the country and every game will challenging.”
The Profs start the season at Ursinus College on Friday, Aug. 30 and they travel to Eastern University on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Last year, Ursinus compiled a 12-6 record. Rowan begins a five-game home stand with Catholic University on Saturday, Sept. 7.
The field hockey team hosts Cabrini University on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Haverford College on Saturday, Sept. 14. The Profs welcome Stevenson University on Wednesday, Sept. 18 and Alvernia University on Wednesday, Sept. 25. In 2018, Alvernia was 11-9 overall and played in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament.
“Our 2019 team will have a different look,” Andre said. “We have a lot of newcomers as well as a core group of returners with experience. Their expectations are high and they understand what it takes to be where they want to be in November.”
Rowan plays the University of Lynchburg at Liberty University on Sunday, Sept. 29. The two teams met twice last year. In the regular season, Rowan defeated Lynchburg, 3-1 and the Profs had a 1-0 shutout in the second round of the national tournament. The field hockey team begins its conference schedule at William Paterson University on Friday, Oct. 4. The Profs have back-to-back NJAC games at home with Stockton University on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Kean University on Saturday, Oct. 12. Stockton had a 15-6 record last year and won the ECAC Championship with a 2-1 overtime victory against Arcadia University.
Rowan is on the road versus Arcadia on Wednesday, Oct. 16. In 2019, the Knights had a 16-7 record. The Profs return to their conference schedule at Ramapo College on Saturday, Oct. 19 and at The College of New Jersey on Tuesday, Oct. 22. TCNJ reached the NCAA third round and finished with a 16-5 record. Rowan shut out The College of New Jersey, 2-0 in the conference championship and had a 3-2 win during the season.
The field hockey team’s last home contest of the regular season is against Montclair State University on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Red Hawks had a 15-4 record in 2018 and received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The Profs travel to Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, Oct. 30 and FDU-Florham on Saturday, Nov. 2. Last year, Elizabethtown finished with a 13-6 mark. FDU-Florham (18-5) played in the second round of the NCAAs.
“The expectation is to win the NJAC title and return to the NCAA tournament,” commented Andre. “The team understands that and this group is focused and prepared for the journey.”
The top four teams qualify for the NJAC Championship Tournament. The semifinals are on Wednesday, Nov. 6 and the final is slated for Saturday, Nov. 9. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which starts on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
