ROCHESTER, NY – Rowan University’s Chad Shire finished seventh in the three-meter diving at the NCAA Northeast/South Regional on Saturday. The regional was held at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Shire totaled 467.35 points with 11 dives. He is the first alternate for the national championships. Seven men from the regional advance to the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC. On Friday, Shire took eighth place in the one-meter diving with 431.85 points.
His top dive was a back 2½ somersault pike for 58.50 points in the ninth round. He had 56.70 points with an inward 2½ somersault tuck in his eighth attempt. Shire did a reverse 2½ somersault tuck in the 10thround and scored 54.60 points. With his sixth dive, he compiled 49.20 points with a forward 2½ somersault pike. In the last round, Shire had 43.50 points with a forward 2½ somersault 1 twist pike.
This is the second straight appearance at the regional for Shire. In 2018, he came in 12thin the three-meter (11 dives) with 420.50 points. He also had a 16thplace on the one-meter board (397.40 points).
