The fitness center, part of the new fieldhouse facility, is designed to be used as part of the physical education curriculum.

However, the campaign, which hopes to raise $200,000, has reached just 40 percent of its goal, including a $20,000 donation from the Moorestown Home & School Association.

“We’re very appreciative,” athletic director Neil Rosa said of contributions thus far. “Every little bit can help. We’re still enthusiastic. It’s an outstanding facility.”

While the campaign continues, with mailings to families of students in the Upper Elementary and middle schools, work has begun on the auxiliary gym and girls’ lockerroom, closing the main gym until late November.

“The auxiliary gym will be converted to all-sports training,” Rosa said.

The auxiliary gym will be divided into a weight room with plate-loaded equipment for team training and an aerobic, dance and wrestling room complete.

For now, the school’s weight equipment is in the future fitness center. The school was able to obtain brand new weight equipment at a discount. The purchase of the strength machines has freed up funds for the fitness center.

“These machines are more long-lasting and durable,” Rosa said, noting that even though it looks like the fitness center is done, it’s not.

Once the auxiliary gym is completed, the weight machines will be moved to make room for cardio and elliptical machines.

“We’re hoping to pick up speed again,” Rosa said of the fundraising efforts. “We hope to have a good response to our mailings.”
